Backpacks for Education, Reaching out to Students in our Community – by Al Severn & Frazier Rogers
Backpacks for Education is Holy Apostles’ way of assisting those families in the community who need help getting their children ready to go back to school in the fall. The Baltimore County Board of Education publishes, by grade, a list of school supplies that students should have at the beginning of the school year. We post a list of those items and ask parishioners to donate the items.
The objective is to fill two back packs for each grade or a total of 14 back packs. Once assembled, the back packs are delivered to South West Emergencies Services (SWES) for distribution to families in the community who they have identified s requiring assistance.
Here’s our timeline:
June 19th – Donation board available and we can announce it at third Sunday gathering
July 31st – All donations are due and we will inventory all the items after services.
August 1st – 6th – We will use this week for shopping for any items needed.
August 7th – Assemble backpacks after 8am service. Blessing of the backpacks at the 10:30 am service
August 8th or 9th – Deliver the backpacks to SWES
August 24th – School Starts
